Hello to all of my students!
I sure miss being able to see all of you! So not the way this year should have been. As I am sure you heard, as of last night, they declared that schools won't be opening again this year, and that we have to transition to distance learning. We have to be able to get you all assignments that we can grade, so that we have the required "instructional time" to be able to give you grades and credits. Unfortunately, the assignments will not be at all like what we are used to doing in class. We have to give assignments that can be done either with or without technology so that it is fair to all students. For those without access to the internet, they will be announcing when those students can pick up assignments. This will mean an extreme amount of papers being distributed and collected. I highly recommend that you reach out to everyone you can to try to help get work submitted electronically so things don't get lost. The teachers are all collaborating together to come up with common assignments to make this easier. Students need to download the "Microsoft Teams" app on their phone or computer and log in with your student email and password. If you need help with this step, there are many other students who have already done this, so you can ask them or you can email me at cwelk@tusd.net and I will will help you. The first day the district has listed as collecting assignments is not until May 8, so that is the due date I have listed on everything as well, but you may submit your assignments at any time before then. I hope you will do so weekly, as it will make the grading process much quicker and easier. I uploaded Tech Theatre's assignments already, and am waiting to receive Drama/Advanced Drama from the other drama teachers. For ELD10, I have uploaded the first weeks assignments in StudySync, but I am waiting to hear how the district wants us to handle the paper copies. Hopefully you can all do the work online. Go to my.mheducation.com to log in.
I fully plan to have our end of the year celebrations as soon as it is safe for us to do so. We all deserve to celebrate, especially our seniors. It has been an amazing year and i have enjoyed being able to see you each day, and now will have to look forward to connecting with you in an new format! Please be patient with me and all your teachers during this difficult time for our world as we are all learning new things in uncharted waters. I hope you and your families are all staying safe.
